Commonwealth Veterinary Association: The first Indian (Asian) President

Veterinarians of India have something to rejoice now. The celebrity vet of India, Dr.S.Abdul Rehman has been elected as the new President of Commonwealth Veterinary Association and will hold office from 1 January 2012. The present Secretary of CVA, Dr. S.Abdul Rehman was elected to the new post at the meeting of the Executive Committee of CVA and will become the first Indian and the first Asian as well to hold the Presidentship of CVA since its inception in 1967.
Dr. S.Abdul Rehman, former Dean of Bangalore Veterinary College and Director of Instructions (Veterinary) of University of Agricultural Sciences (Bangalore) is well known for his academic brilliance as a renowned scientist in zoonotic diseases as rabies, hydatidosis, cysticercosis. He is a graduate of Mysore Veterinary college (1965) and had his PG from Madras Veterinary College (1969). He received his doctorate in veterinary parasitology from University of Queensland(1976) and received Fellowship from the Royal Veterinary College of Spain (1990). A leader par excellence, Dr Abdul Rehman successfully held posts of the President of Karnataka Veterinary Association, Secretary & President of Indian Veterinary Association and is a permanent member of World Veterinary Association (WVA) and World Organization for Animal Health (OIE). We wish him all success and hope that his achievement will help boost the professional spirit of the Veterinarians of India.
